We are multi-dimensional people, and it is important to be balanced in all life areas. The 8 Dimensions of Wellness is a holistic wellness framework developed by Dr. Margaret "Peggy" Swarbrick. You can can use the framework as a tool to gain insight into your overall wellness – successes, challenges, and what you want to create.


This two-part mental health writing prompt will help you:

  1. Take an inventory of each wellness dimension.

  2. Choose one area to focus on for personal growth and transformation.


The 8 Dimensions of Wellness


  1. Emotional Wellness

    Understanding and managing your feelings, coping with life challenges, and fostering a positive relationship with yourself.

  2. Physical Wellness

    Maintaining a healthy body through movement and exercise, regular sleep routine, proper nutrition, and avoiding harmful behaviors.

  3. Financial Wellness

    Managing financial resources effectively, planning for the future, and having a healthy relationship with money.

  4. Intellectual Wellness

    Engaging in creative and stimulating activities to expand knowledge and skills.

  5. Social Wellness

    Building and maintaining healthy relationships, a support network, and experiencing a sense of belongingness with others.

  6. Spiritual Wellness

    Finding purpose and meaning in life, which may involve religion, spiritual practices, meditation, or personal beliefs.

  7. Occupational Wellness

    Finding personal satisfaction and enrichment in your work, and maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

  8. Environmental Wellness

    Engaging in safe, peaceful living and work environments.
